This mixed media series titled Phases uses subtle layering of materials — acrylics, charcoal, paper and plaster on canvas or wood panel — to provide depth, while celebrating clean lines and simple forms. I was inspired by the phases of the moon, with its seen and unseen sphere depending on where it is in orbit. Though we sometime only catch a sliver, the moon remains whole continuing its infinite cycle.

ARCHIVE

This body of work from 2019 began one silent morning after a very challenging few months. I wanted the world around me to make more sense, and I reached for watercolors, with their gentle flow. Patterns and grids provided me a sense of order and control, while evoking a story. The negative space, the repetition, the overlap, the weight of the line and saturation all contribute to the emotion. However, as in life, when looking at each work as a whole the actual tension of each line is dissipated, giving way to overall harmony and balance.
